2. What we collect
We collect the following categories of personal data when you use JyotishGPT:
• Account data — mobile phone number (with country code), password (stored only as a secure hash), and display name. • Birth and chart data — date, time, and place of birth (including latitude, longitude, and timezone), gender (optional), and computed astrological chart data. • Chat data — messages you send to our AI astrologer, AI responses, and optional chat memories you choose to save. • Usage data — pages visited, features used, device and browser type, approximate location derived from IP, and analytics events (via Google Analytics and PostHog). • Communications — records of service announcements sent via WhatsApp if you opt in at signup.
3. Why we use your data
We process your personal data for these purposes:
• Creating and managing your account and primary birth chart. • Delivering AI-powered Vedic astrology readings, horoscopes, and related tools. • Storing optional chat memories to personalise future conversations. • Sending important service updates and announcements on WhatsApp (only with your separate consent). • Improving reliability, security, and product experience through analytics. • Complying with applicable law and responding to lawful requests.
4. Legal basis
We rely on your consent for WhatsApp communications and for non-essential analytics where required. Core account and chart services are processed to perform our contract with you when you sign up and use JyotishGPT. We may also process data where necessary for legitimate interests such as fraud prevention and service security, balanced against your rights.
5. WhatsApp communications
At signup you may separately consent to receive important updates and announcements on WhatsApp at your registered mobile number. We use this channel for service-related messages — such as product changes, security notices, or feature announcements — not for unsolicited promotional spam. You may withdraw WhatsApp consent at any time by emailing privacy@jyotishgpt.in. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.
6. How we share data
We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with service providers who help us operate JyotishGPT, including:
• Hosting and database — cloud infrastructure providers (e.g. Render, Neon Postgres). • AI provider — OpenAI for generating astrology chat responses. • Analytics — Google Analytics and PostHog for usage measurement.
These providers process data on our instructions and under appropriate contractual safeguards. We may also disclose data if required by law or to protect rights, safety, and security.
7. Cross-border transfers
Some of our service providers may process data outside India (for example, in the United States). Where personal data is transferred internationally, we take reasonable steps to ensure appropriate safeguards are in place consistent with applicable Indian law, including contractual protections with our vendors.
8. Retention
We retain personal data for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the service. Chat memories are kept for up to one year unless you delete them sooner. Shared Kundli Match links expire after 30 days. When you request account deletion, we delete or anonymise your data within a reasonable period, except where retention is required by law.
9. Your rights (DPDP Act, 2023)
Subject to applicable law, you have the right to:
• Access personal data we hold about you. • Correct inaccurate or incomplete data (you can update birth details in your profile). • Erase personal data when it is no longer needed or upon valid request. • Withdraw consent for processing that relies on consent (such as WhatsApp messages). • Nominate another person to exercise your rights in the event of death or incapacity. • File a grievance with us and, if unresolved, with the Data Protection Board of India.

10. Grievance redressal
If you have concerns about how we handle your personal data, please contact our grievance officer at privacy@jyotishgpt.in. We aim to acknowledge grievances within 7 days and resolve them within 30 days where possible.
11. Children
JyotishGPT is not directed at children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from minors without verifiable parental consent. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
12. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including HTTPS encryption in transit, bcrypt password hashing, and access controls on our servers. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; please keep your password confidential.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the current version. Material changes will be communicated via the website or, where appropriate, by email or WhatsApp. New users will be asked to accept the updated policy at signup.

JyotishGPT provides guidance and reflection for personal insight. Our readings are not medical, legal, financial, or professional advice. You should not rely on astrology outputs as a substitute for qualified professional counsel.
